A copier meter reading is a usage count from your copier or multifunction printer. It shows how many pages have been printed, copied, or processed by the machine.
Meter readings are similar to the mileage on a vehicle. They help track how much the equipment has been used over time. MCC uses meter readings for accurate billing, service records, and supply planning.
What Does a Meter Reading Track?
The exact meters shown depend on your copier model and agreement, but common meter readings may include:
- Total pages printed or copied
- Black-and-white pages
- Color pages
- Large-size pages
- Scan counts
- Print counts
- Copy counts
Some machines show one total meter. Others show several different meters. If your equipment has separate black-and-white and color meters, both may be needed.
Why Are Meter Readings Important?
Meter readings are important because they help MCC keep your account accurate.
They may be used to:
- Calculate usage-based billing
- Track black-and-white and color output
- Confirm monthly service agreement usage
- Monitor equipment volume
- Identify unusual changes in print activity
- Help plan toner and supply needs
- Maintain accurate service history
Accurate meter readings help prevent billing errors and reduce the need for corrections later.
Do All Customers Have to Report Meter Readings?
No. MCC uses multiple methods to automatically collect meter readings from supported equipment when available. If your system is connected for automatic meter collection, you may not need to manually report your meter readings.
Manual readings may still be needed if the automatic reading is not received, the equipment is not connected, the device was recently moved, or MCC requests a current reading.
Why Did MCC Ask Me for a Meter Reading?
MCC may ask for a meter reading when a current reading is needed to complete billing, update account records, verify usage, or correct a missing automatic meter collection.
This does not always mean something is wrong. Sometimes the machine simply did not transmit the reading, the network connection changed, or the device needs to be confirmed manually.
What Happens If a Meter Reading Is Incorrect?
Incorrect meter readings can cause billing delays, inaccurate usage records, or the need for invoice corrections. That is why it is important to report the correct number from the correct machine.
If you accidentally submit the wrong meter reading, contact MCC as soon as possible so the information can be reviewed.
How Can I Report a Meter Reading?
The easiest way to report a meter reading is by using the MCC Express Passport on your equipment. Scan the QR code, choose Report Meter, enter the current meter count, and submit.
You can also report meter readings by phone or email.
