MCC Secure allows authorized administrators to control which doors a user can open and when they can access them.

You may need to change door access permissions when an employee changes roles, moves to another department, begins working at a different location, needs temporary access, or no longer requires entry to certain areas.

Most clients manage these changes directly in MCC Secure. MCC can also update permissions for you through our Concierge Service.

Before Changing Access

Before making changes, confirm:

  • User’s full name
  • Building or location
  • Doors or areas they currently access
  • Doors or areas they should access
  • Days and times access should be allowed
  • Effective date
  • Expiration date, if temporary
  • Name of the person authorizing the change

Avoid giving broader access than the user needs. Access control works best when permissions match the person’s actual job responsibilities.

How to Change Door Access in MCC Secure

The exact menu names may vary slightly, but the general process is:

  1. Sign in to the MCC Secure portal.
  2. Open the user or access management section.
  3. Search for the user.
  4. Open the user’s profile.
  5. Locate the access permissions, access group, or access plan.
  6. Add or remove the appropriate doors, areas, or groups.
  7. Update the access schedule if needed.
  8. Add a start or expiration date for temporary access.
  9. Review the changes.
  10. Save the updated permissions.

Changes may take several minutes to update across the system.

Using Access Groups or Access Plans

Many access control systems organize permissions into groups or plans rather than assigning doors one at a time.

An access group may include:

  • Specific exterior doors
  • Interior office areas
  • Restricted departments
  • Multiple buildings
  • Approved days
  • Approved access hours

Assigning the correct group is usually faster and more consistent than manually selecting individual doors.

Before assigning a group, review what it includes. A group name like “Management” or “Warehouse” may include more access than expected.

Adding Temporary Access

Temporary access is useful for:

  • Contractors
  • Vendors
  • Temporary employees
  • Visitors
  • Special projects
  • After-hours work
  • Short-term access to another location

When possible, set both a start date and expiration date.

This prevents temporary permissions from remaining active after they are no longer needed. Temporary access without an expiration date has a habit of becoming permanent through sheer neglect.

Removing Access Without Removing the User

If a user still works for your organization but no longer needs access to certain areas, you do not need to delete the entire account.

You can:

  • Remove selected doors
  • Change the access group
  • Restrict access hours
  • Remove access to another location
  • Add an expiration date
  • Suspend access temporarily

Review the remaining permissions after making changes to ensure the user still has the access needed for their role.

Test the Updated Permissions

After changing access, test the user’s card, key fob, PIN, or mobile credential.

Confirm that:

  • Newly approved doors unlock
  • Removed doors remain locked
  • Access works during the correct hours
  • Restricted areas remain unavailable
  • The user appears correctly in access activity records

Testing is especially important after changing access groups or schedules.

What If the User Still Has the Wrong Access?

If the change does not appear to work:

  • Confirm the correct user was updated
  • Confirm the correct credential is assigned
  • Review the assigned access group or plan
  • Check the access schedule
  • Confirm the change was saved
  • Allow several minutes for the system to update
  • Test a second approved door if available

If the user still has access to a restricted door, contact MCC promptly.

Let MCC Manage the Change

MCC can update door access permissions for clients who prefer managed administration.

When submitting a request, include:

  • Building or location
  • User’s full name
  • Card or key fob number, if available
  • Doors or areas to add
  • Doors or areas to remove
  • Approved schedule
  • Effective date and time
  • Expiration date, if temporary
  • Name of the person authorizing the change

For urgent access removal, call MCC rather than relying only on email.
