MCC supports Quadient iX Series postage meters. When USPS postage rates change, your meter may need to download and activate the newest rate table before you process mail at the updated rates.

In many cases, rate updates are downloaded automatically when the meter connects to Quadient’s online services. If the new rates are not showing, you may need to manually update the rate table or run a generic call from the meter.

Before You Start

Before updating the postage rate, make sure:

  • The meter is powered on
  • The meter is connected to the network or approved communication line
  • No mail is being processed
  • You have supervisor access or the required PIN, if prompted
  • The meter has time to complete the connection without being turned off

Do not turn off, unplug, or restart the meter while it is downloading updates.

Method 1: Update the Rate Table

On many Quadient iX Series meters, new postal rates can be downloaded from the rate management or advanced rate menu.

The exact menu wording may vary by model, but the general process is:

  1. From the home screen, open the Rate or Rate Selection menu.
  2. Go to the Advanced Rate or Rate Management screen.
  3. Select Update Rate Table, Download New Rates, or a similar option.
  4. Press OK to confirm.
  5. Wait while the meter connects to the online services server.
  6. Allow the meter to download any available rate updates.
  7. Follow any prompts shown on the screen.
  8. Return to the home screen when the update is complete.

Once the rate table is downloaded, the meter may automatically use the correct rate when the new rate’s effective date arrives.

Method 2: Run a Generic Call

If the rate update does not appear, you can also run a generic call. A generic call connects the meter to online services and allows the system to retrieve available updates.

To run a generic call:

  1. From the home screen, open the Menu.
  2. Select Online Services.
  3. Choose Generic Call.
  4. Press OK.
  5. Wait for the meter to connect and complete the transaction.
  6. Press OK when the call is complete.
  7. Return to the home screen.

A generic call may download available rate updates, software updates, messages, or other meter information.

How to Confirm the Rate Updated

After the update or generic call is complete, check the rate information on the meter.

Depending on your iX model, you may be able to view installed rate tables from a rate management or rate table list screen. The active rate table should match the current USPS rate period.

Keep in mind that a new rate table may download before the effective date but may not become active until the date the new USPS rates take effect.

Updating Rates Is Not the Same as Adding Postage

Updating the postage rate changes the rate table the meter uses to calculate postage.

Adding postage, also called adding funds, increases the available postage balance on the meter.

If your meter has the correct rate but does not have enough postage available, you may need to add postage separately.

What If the Rate Still Looks Wrong?

If the postage rate does not appear to update after running the rate update or generic call, check the following:

  • Is the meter connected to the network or communication line?
  • Did the generic call complete successfully?
  • Is the new rate table effective yet?
  • Are you selecting the correct mail class and service?
  • Is the meter showing an error message?
  • Has the meter been restarted after the update?
  • Are you using a saved imprint or memory that may need to be updated?

Postage meter menus love to hide important things behind painfully generic labels. If something looks wrong, write down the exact message shown on the screen before clearing it.
