MCC Secure allows authorized administrators to manage access control users, credentials, door permissions, and access schedules through a cloud-based portal.
Most clients manage their own users directly in MCC Secure. MCC can also manage user additions, removals, and permission changes for clients who prefer our Concierge Service.
The exact menu names may vary slightly depending on your MCC Secure system, but the general process is the same.
Before Adding a User
Before creating a new access control user, gather:
- User’s first and last name
- Employee ID, if used
- Department or location
- Card or key fob number
- Mobile credential email address, if applicable
- Doors or areas the user should access
- Days and times access should be allowed
- Start date
- Expiration date, if temporary
- Any special access requirements
Do not automatically copy another employee’s permissions without reviewing them first. Similar job titles do not always require identical access.
How to Add a User in MCC Secure
To add a new access control user:
- Sign in to the MCC Secure portal.
- Open the user or access management section.
- Select the option to add a new user.
- Enter the user’s name and requested contact information.
- Assign an access credential, such as a card, key fob, PIN, or mobile credential.
- Assign the appropriate access group, plan, or door permissions.
- Set the allowed access schedule.
- Add a start or expiration date if needed.
- Review the information and save the user.
Changes may take several minutes to update across the access control system.
Assigning Access Permissions
Creating a user does not automatically give that person access to every door.
The user must be assigned the correct access permissions, which may control:
- Buildings or locations
- Exterior entrances
- Interior doors
- Restricted areas
- Days of the week
- Hours of access
- Start and expiration dates
Choose the most limited access that allows the person to perform their job. Giving everyone access to everything is easy. It is also how security systems quietly become decorative.
Adding a Temporary User
For contractors, temporary employees, vendors, or visitors, use temporary access whenever possible.
Set:
- Access start date and time
- Expiration date and time
- Approved doors
- Allowed schedule
- Responsible employee or department
An expiration date helps prevent temporary credentials from remaining active after they are no longer needed.
How to Remove a User in MCC Secure
When an employee or contractor no longer needs access:
- Sign in to the MCC Secure portal.
- Open the user or access management section.
- Search for the user.
- Open the user’s profile.
- Select the option to deactivate, suspend, or remove access.
- Confirm the change.
- Recover the physical card or key fob whenever possible.
For permanent departures, deactivate or remove the user promptly.
For temporary leave, you may be able to suspend the user without permanently deleting the account.
Updating a User’s Access
You may not need to remove the user entirely if they are changing roles, departments, schedules, or locations.
You may be able to:
- Add or remove door access
- Assign a different access group
- Change the access schedule
- Add an expiration date
- Replace a lost credential
- Add or remove a mobile credential
- Move the user to another location
Review the user’s permissions after making changes to confirm they still match the person’s current role.
What to Do With the Card or Key Fob
Disabling a user in MCC Secure prevents the credential from opening doors, but the physical card or key fob should still be recovered whenever possible.
Before reassigning a credential:
- Confirm the previous user is deactivated
- Update the credential record
- Assign it to the new user
- Review the new user’s permissions
- Test it at an approved door
Do not hand a card to a new employee without updating the user record first. The system remembers whose card it thinks it is, even when people do not.
Test the New User’s Access
After adding or updating a user, test the credential at the doors the person should be able to access.
Confirm that:
- Approved doors unlock
- Restricted doors remain locked
- Access works during the correct schedule
- The user appears correctly in activity records
- Mobile credentials work, if assigned
Let MCC Manage the Change
